STRATEGIES IN COUNSELING |
The chapters in this book provided a glimpse of some of the strategies that have developed in response to personal experiences and reflection of experts in the field of counsellor education. These strategies can be categorised into the following aspects of counselling: selection of counsellor trainees, counsellor education & supervision, the emerging theory that integrates religion and spirituality, the practical application of the related theory to Muslim women clients, and strategies in applying research findings to improve counselling practices.
As in most cultures across the globe, non-formal interpersonal guidance and helping among family as well as non-family members has been in existence ever since the existence of mankind. The preference for help or social support from family members, friends and significant others perhaps reflects the culture bound tradition. The counselling strategies in this book arises out of the experts’ experiences with Malaysian clients bearing the influences intertwining with counselling techniques, and the various belief systems and culture of this multireligious, multicultural and multilingual country.
